Germany’s savings banks print Buchungstag, Wert, Erläuterung and one signed Betrag, with the old balance at the top and the new one at the bottom but no balance on each row.

For expats in Germany
Many newcomers open their first German account at the local Sparkasse. Convert the statements to show income for a flat application or a visa extension, with column names in English.

Sparkasse statements are issued in German: Buchungstag, Wert, Erläuterung, Betrag. The converter keeps the original booking text, so a landlord or accountant abroad sees exactly what the bank printed, while the column names in your spreadsheet can be English.
Common words you will meet: Lastschrift (direct debit), Überweisung (transfer), Gutschrift (incoming payment), Kartenzahlung (card payment) and Dauerauftrag (standing order).
Getting older statements
Online banking keeps statements in the Postfach for a limited time. If you need statements from earlier years, your Sparkasse branch can usually provide them, sometimes for a fee. Each savings bank sets its own rules, so ask yours.

Your browser reads the PDF first, on your device. Only if it cannot read it is the file read on our server, and deleted right after.
