ING statements are in German, with European amounts (1.234,56), a booking date and a value date (Buchung and Valuta), a description over two or three lines and a single amount column where a minus sign means money out. If you live in Germany as an expat or freelancer, that is a lot to untangle before you can do your budget or send numbers to your Steuerberater. StatementEasy turns it into a clean table, with money in and money out in separate columns.

Where ING puts your statements

Your account statements (Kontoauszüge) are delivered to the Postbox in online banking and in the Banking to go app.

  1. Sign in to ING online banking or open the Banking to go app. Use the same access as for your payments.
  2. Open the Postbox. Statements, tax certificates and letters from ING are kept there.
  3. Find the Kontoauszug for the month. They are listed by date and account.
  4. Download the PDF. Save each month and drop them here together.

Download your statements regularly: documents in an online postbox are not always kept forever, and older months are the ones you need for a tax return.

Amounts like -1.234,56 become the number 1234.56 in the Money out column, so SUM and pivot tables work straight away in Excel or Google Sheets, whatever your language settings.

Checked against alter and neuer Saldo

The first page shows the old balance and the last one the new balance. StatementEasy adds up every amount it read and checks that the old balance plus the movements gives the new balance. If several months are dropped together, it also checks that each statement starts where the previous one ended.

For your tax return and your budget

For the Steuererklärung, freelancers and landlords usually need a list of business income and expenses for the calendar year. Drop the twelve statements, use “All files combined” and the Categories sheet to group them, then export to Excel or CSV for your Steuerberater. Bookkeeping software that imports OFX or MT940 can use those exports too. For your own budget, the Recurring sheet lists rent, insurance, subscriptions and other direct debits (Lastschriften) with their typical amount.

Questions

Do I need to translate the statement first?

No. The German column names and balance lines are recognised as they are. The descriptions stay in the original language, as ING printed them.

Does it work with ING in the Netherlands or Belgium?

The tested layout is the German Kontoauszug. ING statements from other countries may use a different layout; try yours — the balance check tells you right away whether every line was read.

Can I open the ING CSV export instead of the PDF?

Yes, CSV files open here too: you can check the columns, add categories and export to Excel or an accounting format. The PDF statement is still the official document with the balances.

Is my statement uploaded?

Your browser reads the PDF first, on your device. Only if it cannot read it is the file read on our server and deleted after reading. A statement we still cannot read is kept encrypted for up to 14 days so we can add support for it.

Is StatementEasy made by ING?

No. StatementEasy is an independent tool and is not affiliated with ING Group (ING-DiBa and ING Bank).
