Direct debits

Water, power and telecom direct debits keep the creditor’s reference; the Recurring sheet groups them with their usual amount.

What your novobanco spreadsheet contains

Each row of the file is one transaction: the date as a real date, the full description, money in and money out as numbers in separate columns, and the running balance where novobanco prints one. The signed Montante becomes two columns, so totals in and out need no formula. A first tab summarises the statement — period, opening and closing balance, totals in and out, and whether the check passed — and the Monthly, Categories and Recurring sheets come in the same download.

Using it for a budget or renting

The Categories sheet groups groceries, fuel, utilities and leisure by month, and Recurring lists direct debits with their creditor. Landlords who ask for recent statements get a one-line-per-month summary from the Monthly sheet.

Export OFX for personal-finance software, CSV for other tools, or Excel for your accountant.

If something looks wrong

• A sign misread — the balance check on every row catches it.
• Dates with dots — 05.03.2025 is read as a real date.
• A movements list, not a statement — both are read, as long as the balance column is present.
