Bank of America statements are easy to read on screen and hard to reuse. Amounts are split over several tables, withdrawals are printed as negative numbers, and checks are packed two to a line. Copying that into Excel by hand takes long and goes wrong easily. StatementEasy rebuilds the statement as one list of transactions in date order, with money in and money out in their own columns.

Where Bank of America keeps your statements

Bank of America puts every monthly statement in Statements & Documents. It is the same place on the website and in the app; only the way there differs.

  1. On the website: sign in to Online Banking. Open the Accounts tab, then choose Statements & Documents.
  2. In the Mobile Banking app: open the menu. Tap Statements and Documents.
  3. Choose the account and the year. The statements for that year are listed month by month.
  4. Open the statement and save the PDF. Download each month you need; you can convert them all together here.

The parts of a BofA statement, and how each one is read

The first page has an Account summary: beginning balance, deposits and other additions, withdrawals and other subtractions, checks, service fees and the ending balance. The pages after it list the transactions behind each of those totals.

  • Deposits and other additions — paychecks, transfers in, refunds and Zelle payments received. They become money in.
  • Withdrawals and other subtractions — card purchases, ATM withdrawals, bill payments and transfers out. BofA prints them with a minus sign; they become money out.
  • Checks — printed in two columns side by side: date, check number and amount, twice per line. Each check becomes its own row with its number in the description.
  • Service fees — monthly maintenance fees and other charges, as money out.

Lines like “Total deposits and other additions” and the daily ledger balances are recognised as totals, not transactions, so they never end up in your sheet.

Checked against the account summary

Once the transactions are read, StatementEasy adds them up section by section and compares the result with the beginning and ending balance in the account summary. When everything matches you see a green check. When it does not, you see by how much, so a missing check or a misread amount is caught before the file reaches your accountant.

Several statements at once

Drop all the PDFs for a year — even from different BofA accounts. Each file gets its own tab, and All files combined gives one sheet with a File column. If two statements overlap, duplicate transactions are spotted and left out of the combined sheet. You can also split by account, which helps when one PDF covers a checking and a savings account.

Formats you can export

Excel (.xlsx) with Transactions, Monthly, Categories and Recurring sheets; CSV for Google Sheets; and accounting files: QBO for QuickBooks, OFX, QIF for Quicken and Xero CSV. Dates are exported in the US format by default, and you can switch to any other.

Questions

Does it read the BofA check images page?

The check images are pictures, not transactions. The checks themselves are read from the Checks table, which has the date, number and amount of each one.

Can I convert a Bank of America credit card statement?

Yes, with the credit card converter, which reads purchases, payments, fees and interest charged.

Why are withdrawals negative in the PDF but positive in my sheet?

Your sheet has separate Money in and Money out columns, so the sign is no longer needed. If you prefer one signed Amount column, choose it under “Adjust the table”.

Is my statement uploaded?

Your browser reads the PDF first, on your device. Only if it cannot read it is the file read on our server and deleted after reading. A statement we still cannot read is kept encrypted for up to 14 days so we can add support for it.

Is StatementEasy made by Bank of America?

No. StatementEasy is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Bank of America.
