South Africa banks tested on real statement layouts
South African statements write amounts with a space between thousands — 12 450.00 — and some banks put the direction after the amount: FNB prints 1 250.00Cr and 349.90Dr in one column. Fees often sit in their own column next to the transaction. StatementEasy reads every amount as one number, splits signed columns into money in and money out, keeps fee columns out of the totals and checks every balance.
Banks
Six South African banks are tested on their real statement layouts: FNB, Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank and Capitec, as well as TymeBank. Other banks are read by the generic reader; the balance check shows whether every line was read. If yours is not, tell us the bank.

Debit orders and bank fees
Debit orders — insurance, gym, cellphone contracts, school fees — are the payments South Africans most often want to review. Recurring lists them with their usual amount and day, and the Categories sheet totals bank fees, so you see what your account and your contracts cost each month.
What South Africa statements are used for
- SARS returns — the tax year runs from 1 March to the end of February; convert those twelve statements and total income and deductions in the Categories sheet.
- Home loans and rentals — Insights lists salary credits, debit orders and the lowest balance.
- Small business books — export CSV for Sage or your accountant, or Xero CSV.
