Tanzanian banks tested on their statement layouts
A bank statement is part of daily life in Tanzania: for a loan from a bank or a SACCO, for a visa, for a landlord in Dar es Salaam or Arusha, for the TRA or for your own budget. StatementEasy turns the PDF from your bank or from M-Pesa into Excel, CSV or OFX and checks every running balance, so the numbers you share are the numbers on the statement.
Tanzanian amounts are often in the millions of shillings; every digit is kept and the sheet holds real numbers, ready for totals.
Banks
Detailed pages: CRDB Bank, NMB Bank, NBC Bank, Stanbic Bank Tanzania, Exim Bank Tanzania, Equity Bank Tanzania, Absa Bank Tanzania, M-Pesa Tanzania.
Eight layouts
CRDB prints a Book Balance; NMB a Reference column and Withdrawals/Deposits; NBC a value date after the narrative; Stanbic one signed Amount; Exim a Cheque No; Equity two-line headers; Absa a balance brought forward; M-Pesa receipt codes and times. In your sheet they all become Date, Description, Money out, Money in and Balance.
Bank and mobile money together
Most Tanzanians use a bank account and a mobile money wallet side by side, moving money between them through agents and apps. Convert both statements and drop them together: “All files combined” gives one sheet with a File column, and each balance is checked within its own statement.
Statement words
| On the statement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Balance B/F | Opening balance carried from the last period |
| Book Balance | The running balance after each line |
| Value Date | The day the money counts for interest |
| Narrative / Particulars | Description of the transaction |
| Withdrawals / Deposits | Money out / money in |
Swahili statements
Most Tanzanian bank PDFs use English column titles, which are fully supported. If your statement prints its columns in Swahili (Tarehe, Maelezo, Kiasi, Salio), send it to us through the contact page and we will add those words.
For SACCOs and microfinance
A clear monthly summary of income and spending, taken from your own statements, makes a loan application easier to assess. The Monthly sheet is exactly that.
