Nigerian banks tested on real statement layouts
A Nigerian statement of account can run to dozens of pages: NIP transfers with the sender’s name and session ID, POS and web payments, USSD airtime, and a steady stream of small charges — SMS alerts, transfer fees, VAT on fees, stamp duty. StatementEasy reads them into Excel with naira amounts as real numbers and checks every row against the balance column, so nothing is lost in a twelve-month statement.
Banks
Fifteen Nigerian banks and fintechs are tested on their real statement layouts: GTBank, Access Bank, Zenith Bank, First Bank, UBA, Fidelity, Ecobank, OPay, Kuda and Moniepoint, as well as Stanbic IBTC, Sterling, Wema (ALAT), FCMB and PalmPay. Other banks are read by the generic reader; the balance check shows whether every line was read. If yours is not, tell us the bank.
What you get
| On the statement | In your sheet |
|---|---|
| Trans. date, value date | Two date columns |
| Narration / remarks over two lines | One description |
| Debit, credit | Money out, money in |
| ₦1,250,000.00 | The number 1250000.00 |
| Opening and closing balance in the summary | Used to check the totals |
Filter the descriptions for “SMS”, “VAT”, “stamp duty” or “fee” to see what your account costs in a year; the Categories sheet totals them.
What Nigerian statements are used for
- Visa applications — embassies usually want six to twelve months, often sent or stamped by the bank. Use the spreadsheet to check your figures first; see what officers look at.
- Loans and tenancy — the Insights tab shows average monthly inflow, recurring payments and large one-off deposits.
- Business records and tax — export to CSV, QuickBooks or Xero.
Questions
Can I use the Excel file for a visa?
No — embassies want the bank’s own statement. The spreadsheet is for checking your figures before you apply.
My statement covers a whole year. Is that fine?
Yes. Long statements are read as one list; large files take a little longer.
Is my statement uploaded?
Your browser reads the PDF first, on your device. Only if it cannot read it is the file read on our server and deleted after reading. A statement we still cannot read is kept encrypted for up to 14 days so we can add support for it.
