Canadian statements look simple until you copy them: RBC prints the date once per day and without the year, TD Canada Trust puts the date after the amounts in a compact form like MAR05, Scotiabank and BMO split their column titles over two lines, and Desjardins and National Bank write amounts the French way — 1 234,56. StatementEasy reads each of these layouts, gives every row a full date and checks every balance.

Banks

Ten Canadian banks are tested on their real statement layouts: RBC Royal Bank, TD Canada Trust, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC and Desjardins, as well as National Bank, Tangerine, Simplii Financial and EQ Bank. Credit unions and other banks are read by the generic reader; the balance check shows whether every line was read. If yours is not, tell us the bank.

What Canadian statements are used for

  • Income tax — the tax year is the calendar year. Convert January to December and total business or rental expenses for your T1 with the Categories sheet.
  • Self-employed and small business — export QBO for QuickBooks or CSV for other software, and reconcile it with your books.
  • Mortgages and rentals — lenders and landlords look at income, regular payments and the balance; Insights summarises them.
  • Immigration and study permits — proof of funds usually means several months of statements; the Monthly sheet shows each month’s closing balance on one line.

English and French statements

French statements from Desjardins and National Bank use French column titles (Retrait, Dépôt, Solde), French month names (mars, avr.) and a space between thousands. They are read as numbers and real dates, and you can export with dates as YYYY-MM-DD, DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY.

Questions

Does it work with TD Canada Trust’s date-after-amount layout?

Yes. The date printed after the withdrawals and deposits, in the MAR05 form, is read as the transaction date.

Can I convert a Canadian credit card statement?

Yes, with the credit card converter.

Is my statement uploaded?

Your browser reads the PDF first, on your device. Only if it cannot read it is the file read on our server and deleted after reading.
