German banks tested on real statements
A German Kontoauszug is in German, prints amounts with a dot for thousands and a comma for decimals (-1.234,56), shows a booking date and a value date (Buchung, Valuta) and usually a single amount column where a minus means money out. StatementEasy recognises the German terms as they are, splits money in and money out, and checks the movements against alter Saldo and neuer Saldo.

Banks
ING is tested on real statements. Statements from Sparkasse, Volksbank, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Postbank, DKB, N26, comdirect, HypoVereinsbank and others are read by the generic reader; the balance check shows whether every line was read. If yours is not, tell us the bank.
What German statements are used for
- Steuererklärung — freelancers and landlords list business income and expenses for the calendar year; combine twelve statements and group them with the Categories sheet.
- Your Steuerberater — a spreadsheet or a CSV instead of a folder of PDFs.
- Accounting software — export CSV, OFX, MT940 or CAMT.053.
- Budgeting — the Recurring sheet lists rent, insurance, subscriptions and other Lastschriften.
Questions
Do I need to translate the statement?
No. German column names and balance lines are recognised as they are; descriptions stay as the bank printed them.
Are amounts like 1.234,56 read correctly in an English Excel?
Yes — they are exported as numbers, so they work whatever your Excel language settings are.
Is my statement uploaded?
Your browser reads the PDF first, on your device. Only if it cannot read it is the file read on our server and deleted after reading. A statement we still cannot read is kept encrypted for up to 14 days so we can add support for it.
