Dutch banks tested on their statement layouts
Expats in the Netherlands need statements for a rental, a mortgage, allowances (toeslagen) or the Dutch tax return. StatementEasy converts each PDF to Excel, CSV, CAMT.053 or MT940 and checks every balance.
Dutch statements use Af (out) and Bij (in) and amounts like 1.234,56; all are read in full.

Eight layouts
ING puts Af or Bij after an unsigned amount; Rabobank, ASN and Triodos have Af and Bij columns; ABN AMRO and Knab a value date; SNS and bunq one signed amount, bunq newest first.
Box 3 and your tax return
Dutch savings tax uses your balance on 1 January; the Summary sheet gives each account’s closing balance.

Your first Dutch bank account
Most expats open a Dutch account once they have a BSN (citizen service number). Until then, statements from your home bank work just as well: drop them together with your new Dutch statements and each keeps its own balance check.
Allowances (toeslagen)
Healthcare and rent allowances are paid in advance and recalculated later, sometimes with a repayment. Filter your statements for “TOESLAG” to see every payment you received in the year before the final assessment arrives.
Splitting bills with Tikkie
Tikkie requests and payments show the other person’s name; filter for “TIKKIE” and the Monthly sheet shows how much you paid and got back each month.
